rom girl-on-guitar in the diviest of dive bars to diva superstars on the most massive of arena tours, the Cleveland music scene is as diverse as your iTunes playlist. Pick a night, any night of the week, and be sure to find more music choices than your schedule can handle. Don't believe us? Man, there's even a song written about it. Cleveland rocks. The lyrics don't lie.

CLEVELAND ROCKS

Rock 'n' roll? Yeah, we invented it. Or at least coined the term for it, thanks to local DJ Alan Freed. So it makes sense that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum (rockhall.com), the stunning shrine to rock music, rises along our north shore at Lake Erie. Queen, Dusty Springfield, Elton John, Ma Raineythere are enough LGBT Rock Hall inductees to fill their own wing. Allies, too: This year's new crop includes activist and gay icon Linda Ronstadt. Permanent and temporary exhibits explore topics from the Beatles to music festivals, and special events and concerts on the plaza mean this museum is no stagnant shrine to yesteryear.

If you're hip enough to have

a wall of vinyl platters, your collection is ripe for expansion in Cleveland. Down the street from the Beachland Ballroom you'll discover two outlets: Music Saves, specializing in new and used indie rock records, and Blue Arrow Records, with vinyl spanning the '50s to today. Across town, fans are obsessed with My Mind's Eye, in Lakewood.

THE scene

When you've soaked up enough of the history of rock 'n' roll, get out and experience it in person. Music aficionados often name the Grog Shop, (grogshop.gs) a Cleveland Heights club that books local and national acts, as their favorite concert venue. The Beachland Ballroom (beachlandballroom.com), in the about-to-breakopen Waterloo neighborhood, has a devoted following attracted to its eclectic schedule that spans blues to electronic dance music. Check out acclaimed jazz venue Nighttown (nighttowncleveland.com) in Cleveland Heights, or the House of Blues (houseofblues.com/Cleveland) in downtown Cleveland for major national tours. New to the scene is Music Box Supper Club (MusicBoxSupperClub.com) set to open this summer on the West Bank of the Flats. It's planned as a two-level, two-venue space booking artists and bands more appropriate for a smaller, intimate, sit-down environment.

ROCK THE HOUSE

The Hard Rock Café has been a destination for music fans in Public Square for years. But now it's joined by the new Hard Rock Rocksino at Northfield Park (hrrocksinonorthfieldpark.com) where a "legendary rock and roll vibe" combines memorabilia, casino gaming, dining and some

of the biggest names currently touring. Take your luck out for a spin.
